AWARD RECIPIENT
LGBT+ Restorative Justice Campaign
The LGBT+ Restorative Justice Campaign has worked to address the historic harm caused by laws criminalising consensual same-sex activity between men in Ireland. Its work seeks recognition and redress for those affected, while ensuring this history remains part of the nation’s LGBTQ+ story. This year, the scheme to disregard these historic convictions officially became law in Ireland.
Accepting the award, representatives reflected on the scale of the injustice, saying, “For 130 years there was a terrible injustice done to our community.” They described the work as creating a “beacon around the world” for what can be done, noting that the UN Human Rights Body has taken the issue on board. They also encouraged others affected to come forward and seek justice. The award honours a significant contribution to addressing a painful chapter in Ireland’s queer history and ensuring those who lived through it are not forgotten.

Trans Limerick Community
Trans Limerick Community is a grassroots initiative focused on supporting and connecting trans people in Limerick. Its nomination recognises the importance of creating local spaces where trans people can build relationships, find solidarity and feel a sense of belonging. The community’s volunteer-led work demonstrates how much can grow from people coming together to support one another, while highlighting the importance of grassroots organisations across Ireland’s wider LGBTQ+ movement.
