A Meeting Of Minds

Those looking for a mental wake-up in the middle of a lazy summer would be advised to check out the Borris House Festival of Writing and Ideas this month, taking place from June 8 to 10.

Authors abound in an incredible and incendiary lineup, with the indomitable Margaret Atwood (currently making an impact n the small screen with the adaptation of her 1985 novel The Handmaid’s Tale) joining a galaxy of star writers such as Donna Tartt, Alan Hollinghurst and Rachel Kushner.

Music gets a look-in too, as members of such legendary bands as Led Zeppelin, Roxy Music and The Slits will regale listeners with tales of their lives in the biz. Laughs are a sure bet with appearances by comedians Deirdre O’Kane, Alison Spittle, and John Lloyd and Sean Hardie – the brains behind classic shows Spitting Image and Not The Nine O’Clock News, amongst others.

An event not to be missed over the three days will be an essential discussion on the result of the Repeal the Eighth Referendum and its implications in Irish society, featuring Fintan O’Toole, Una Mullaly and Emmet Kirwan.

The full lineup of events and more information on how to get tickets can be found at festivalofwritingandideas.com
