Eddie and Candi Go To Warsaw

Regular guest Mother DJ, Eddie Kay and glam queen Candi Warhol have been invited by the Irish embassy in Poland to open the Warsaw Equality Parade on June 9. With an enormous turnout of over 50,000 revellers expected, it’s quite the honour for our homegrown talents.

Eddie and Candi will be leading the charge on the main float through the city, wowing the crowds with music and performance and supporting Polish LGBTs in their fight for constitutional change. Poland is one of seven constitutions in the EU to ban gay marriage and the country is one of six in the 28-member bloc not to allow same-sex civil unions.

The Irish ambassador will be on hand with this year’s open letter of support, backed by fellow embassies internationally. Polish advocates are looking to Ireland as inspiration due to the successful result of our own marriage referendum.

Eddie told us, “Being asked to represent our country by the Irish Embassy is a huge honour and we are a bit overwhelmed, to be honest. Our Polish sisters and brothers aren’t as lucky as us here in Ireland to have equal same-sex marriage rights, and if we can be seen as an example, then that is an amazing thing to be part of.”

Do us proud, guys!
