Why we need a law on HATE CRIME
On March 10 this year, the Seanad approved a motion for Ireland to opt in to new EU measures to combat and prohibit hate speech. Consequently, it called on the government to start working on implementing effective legislation against hate crimes. This represents a big step forward, explains Beatrice Fanucci considering that minority groups in the country, LGBTQ+ people included, still have no appropriate protection against hate violence.
