Gazing North

Bound to be one of the crown jewels in the glittering tiara that is the upcoming Gaze Dublin International LGBT Film Festival, the Light House Cinema will play host to an invigorating session of film and discussion in association with GCN Townhall Talks, entitled ‘The North Is Next’.

Taking place on Monday, August 6, the event looks at how the queer and women’s movements in the Republic can use the momentum from the recent achievements in marriage equality and abortion rights to further similar campaigns for our friends in the North.

Beginning with a series of specifically curated activist films, the screening will be followed by an unmissable discussion with a group of seasoned activists from both sides of the border, hosted by GCN’s own Brian Finnegan. The panel will include Emma Campbell (Alliance for Choice, Belfast), Ruth McCarthy (Outburst Queer Arts Festival), John O’Doherty (The Rainbow Project / Love Equality NI) and the living legend that is Together For Yes Codirector, Ailbhe Smyth, as they explore how LGBT activists down south can stand in solidarity with their counterparts in the North to make Ireland an island with equality all over.
