Peaches! Why? She is a total badass and has been making interesting and exciting music for 20 years and counting. Each release is fresher and more vital than the last, and that’s no mean feat! Also, she’s headlined Mother’s Yestival and was electrifying live.

I’ve been really loving Gadget and the Cloud’s album Songs For Sad People To Dance To, which is a great bundle of ambient beats and worth a listen for album name alone.

It would have to be Patrick Wolf. discovered him watching Veda lip-sync to one of his songs at Bingo! years ago and remember thinking, ‘I need to fi nd out who this artist is’. really love how he combines electronic sounds with classic instruments and how unapologetically queer he is.

St Vincent all the way. She’s queer in every sense of the word and can absolutely rip up a guitar. Her music has been the soundtrack to my own queer adventures. Plus she can rock a pair of go-go boots (no easy feat). An absolute queen!

John Cameron Mitchell is first and foremost a filmmaker, but the music he created and sang for Hedwig And The Angry Inch has basically been the soundtrack to my life for nearly 20 years. ‘Wicked Little Town’ is part of my repertoire of drunken party pieces for unlucky listeners.

Anohni, formerly known as Antony from Antony And The Johnsons. love everything about her, her expression, lyrics, voice, her disdain for violent masculinity and her charge for imagining a world where the feminine is respected.

Harry Styles, because he’s helped to normalise being queer and he’s an an advocate without ever feeling the need to label his own sexuality. Styles is socially aware, ambiguous and androgynous. Plus, he can rock a printed Gucci suit while dancing around with Pride ags.

Courtney Barnett. Because she started her own label and lives in a tiny house in the suburbs of Melbourne with her girlfriend and her cat, writing songs about house hunting and allergy attacks, and she’s one of the few people who can make the Australian accent sound sexy.
