Cox Rocks

Queer Carlow-native Gar Cox sings songs of love and death “with a smattering of tractors, recipes, and lines blatantly stolen from other artists.” (Nice line, Gar.)

In 2015 he released his Support Your Local Bookshop EP and rather fittingly embarked on a tour of some of the nation’s independent bookshops, winning over the hearts of folk fans and booksellers alike in the process.

This month Cox returns with his first full-band EP, Tombstone Heart, a collection of songs reflecting on the trials and triumphs of the human heart. The EP runs the gamut, from the upbeat title track to the reflective ballad ‘We Lose People’, and from the rollicking ‘Other People Call Me Baby’ to the elegant, and timely, anti-Fascist torch song ‘Teuton Square’.

Cox will launch Tombstone Heart with a show at Dublin’s East Side Tavern, on October 18 at 8pm, with guests Alice Jago and Gavin Glass. See you there?
