U.S. PRESIDENTIAL RACE

In the first ever large-scale survey of the presidential preferences of U.S. gay and lesbian voters, a majority of respondents indicated a preference for the Rev. Jesse Jackson.

The survey was mailed to 9,700 members of the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force earlier this year. Out of a response rate of 24.1%, Jackson got a 36% preference followed by Michael Dukakis at 29% and Senator Paul Simon with 12%. No other candidate received more than 5% of the vote.
