Queer Writes

There’s no-one quite like the Irish for a good story. For years seanachaí passed down the oral tradition, keeping stories and customs alive by the fireplace until the advent of television usurped them.

Now a brand new project hopes to give LGBT+ people a voice to tell their own stories and share their unique experiences in their own words. By doing so, those whose voices have long been overlooked get a chance to experience empowerment and self-affirmation.

The project, titled OUR_STORY aims to gather queer narratives from around the world, in an attempt to “offer gender and sexually non-conformative people a sense of freedom of expression”. The organisers of the project especially encourage submissions from those who haven’t published anything before. Reprints are okay, as are anonymous submissions.

Submissions to the project will be open until December of this year. Formats can be short stories, poems, book excerpts, interviews, diary entries, documentaries, comics or anything else. Accepted submissions will be published online and in a printed anthology.

If you have a story, email submissions to tqu@me.com, or visittransnational-queer-underground.netfor more info
