Nova Bar

GCN has recently heard of the closing of Nova Bar in Galway. Long a nightlife stalwart, the instantly familiar spot at Number 1 William Street closed its doors on March 4. At present social media channels for the bar have been removed. This is a sad blow to the already underserved LGBT+ scene in the West. With only a handful of options available for the community, its loss will be felt. The much-loved bar was a hub of LGBT+ life in Galway and only time will tell if the building will reopen catering to the community.

GCN only recently discovered that the last lease holder of Nova Bar, Anne Buckley, sadly passed away in November of 2018. GCN would like to offer its belated but heartfelt thoughts to Anne’s loved ones. May she rest in power.
