MUSIC REVIEW

Ex Fifth Harmony gal, Camila Cabello struck solo gold late last year with the worldwide smash single, ‘Havana’.

Her album date got pushed back to capitalise on this new-found success and the result is a debut that manages to set out Cabello’s stall as a star in her own right. Thankfully keeping the vocal acrobatics that often marred her Fifth Harmony contributions to a minimum, Cabello shows an impressive range on this effort.

‘She Loves Control’ plays like a more uptempo spin on the style of ‘Havana’, while ‘Into It’ is an urgent ear-worm that could be a sizeable hit. There are moody moments too like ‘Real Friends’, which could be read as a diss on her former bandmates or the impressive ‘Something’s Gotta Give’ with its dramatic, film soundtrack quality. At a lean 37 minutes long Camila doesn’t give you much time to get tired of Cabello’s point of view but certainly leaves you impressed.
