Feminists on Film
Given that we live in a world where men outnumber women three-to-one in family films, where women are almost four times as likely as men to be shown in ‘sexy’ attire, the Dublin Feminist Film Festival is an essential antidote to the misrepresentation of women in the film industry.
The theme this year (its fourth) is ‘Feminist Futures’ and organisers say that topics such as science, the avant-garde, technology and the digital world will be very much in the foreground.
The festival’s mission is to help counteract the misrepresentation of women portrayed as stereotypical female characters and in two-dimensional roles and to expose audiences to a broader scope than those often found in mainstream cinema. The festival wants to celebrate women (meaning anyone who identifies as female) working in the industry to inspire and empower others to get involved in filmmaking and production.
The DFFF is run voluntarily and all profits go Sasane Nepal. The programme of events launches November 4, see Facebook/Dublin Feminist Film Festival
