Off to Outburst!
We’re choosing what to wear for our forthcoming visit to Outburst, Belfast’s annual queer arts festival, to which we’re bringing our Town Hall Talks series for the first time this year. Entitled ‘Lesbians: Who’s Looking?’, the talk sees special guests Una Mullally, Sonya Mulligan, and our own Lisa Connell discussing lesbian representation in the arts and media.
But listen to us blowing our own trumpets! There’s so much more at this year’s Outburst, it’s hard to know where to begin. Highlights include Diamond, which features the inimitable David Hoyle exploring LGBT+ history in the
UK, spanning a 60-year period from 1957 to 2017, Simón el Topo (Simon the Mole), a queer coming out puppet show from Peru; Mark Ravenhill and Conor Mitchell’s award-winning AIDS polemic 10 Plagues and The Butch Monologues, a powerful and humorous collection of secret stories exploring sexuality, vulnerability and desire, taken from interviews with gender rebels living worldwide. There’s a film festival, lots of workshops, interactive events, panel discussions and much, much more, making it the biggest and best queer arts festival on the island. We can’t wait!
Outburst Queer Arts Festival runs from November 9 to 18 in Belfast, for a full programme of events or tickets visit
