Archive On The Move
We’re delighted to report that Cork’s LGBT Archive collection has moved to a new home in the Cork Public Museum. The archive aims to preserve and share information about the rich history of Cork’s LGBT Community. The museum which is part of Cork City Council, will work with the Cork LGBT Archive to catalogue the collection and facilitate public access to the materials, including copies of Munster GCN, which was published for a time in the 1990s.
Ultimately a permanent Cork LGBT Exhibition will be developed and will be on display in the museum for viewing by the general public.
“I think that it is very important that the museum is at the forefront of exploring the histories of the ‘minority’ groups that have shaped the social and cultural life of this city,” says museum curator Daniel Breen. “I can see the LGBT archive becoming an important resource and hopefully encourage other local authority museums to create their own LGBT+ collections.”
You can visit Cork’s LGBT Archive in the Cork Public Museum in Fitzgerald’s Park, Cork.
