Get To Know The GCN Team

THIS MONTH, IN HONOUR OF OUR ANNUAL GALAS LGBT+ AWARDS CEREMONY, WE ASKED THE

BRIAN

My lifetime acheivement award goes to the wonderful Ann Louise Gilligan, who spent her life empowering the marginalised, and kickstarted the marriage equality movement.

CIARA

Angela Merkel. As the world continues to hurtle towards war and global instability, people will start look back fondly upon the blissfully benevolent period of Merkel’s reign as de facto EU boss.

AIDAN I’d have to nominate the one and only

Britney Spears for her tireless work with snakes and her ability to overcome mental illness and come back fighting. She’s an inspiration.

LISA

Tonie Walsh . Having spent his entire life in pursuit of LGBT rights and joyous beauty in Ireland, including co-founding GCN, Tonie has made an indelible mark on queer culture in Ireland.

CATHERINE

Mná na hÉireann – for being forced to give birth, or to find approx €1k to travel to assert their bodily autonomy, for the women allowed to die, and for those who tirelessly campaign for equal rights.

STEFANO

I would nominate Edith Windsor, who passed away in September, because of her many years of activism and her victory in the US Supreme Court, which overturned the Defense Of Marriage Act.

DAVE

I’d give my lifetime achievement award to Bob Dylan, so when he shows up we’ll finally get proof that a GALA is more important than a Nobel Prize.

ELLIE

I would nominate Chandra Talpade Mohanty because the ongoing effort to produce postcolonial and transnational feminist theory is essential to the continued pursuit of LGBT+ rights in Ireland and abroad.
